Sen. Jack Reed Visits People's Garden Site at Norman Bird Sanctuary

Senator Jack Reed recently visited Norman Bird Sanctuary (NBS) to learn about their food forest program. Funding for the program was provided by the People's Garden Program through ERICD and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. According to this article from What's Up Newp, "The grant will support the development of a food forest, an expansion of the organization’s award-winning Good Gardens, which donates all its produce to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center’s Food Pantry in Newport. The new Food Forest will integrate a multistoried garden featuring large fruit and nut trees with a diverse understory of food-producing species below the canopy." Congratulations to NBS and thank you for your great work in our community!
