Take-and-Make a Rain Barrel in Portsmouth

Order online and then pick up your barrel and installation materials in Portsmouth on Saturday, August 24. Barrels are $55 each and include the barrel and installation kit for you to take home and convert this container into an ally for a cleaner Narragansett Bay.

For Rain Barrel Pick Up:

Where - Ragged Island Brewery 54 Bristol Ferry Rd, Portsmouth, RI, 02871

When - Saturday, August 24, 2024 between 12:00-2:30 PM

Take home a rain barrel which will collect and store stormwater for your garden. You will receive an unpainted barrel and installation kit that will connect to your downspout. Rain barrel prepping instructions are provided through a video and FAQ available on the Residential Rain Barrels Program Page on our Website. Containers are generously provided by the Rhode Island Brewers Guild.

For conservation and for pollution prevention, installing a rain barrel to collect and store rainwater for use on your lawn and gardens is a simple but powerful way to make a difference for the Aquidneck Island and Narragansett Bay.

Lawn and garden watering typically makes up 40% of total summer household water usage, according to the EPA. Plus, the biggest threat to our waters today is polluted runoff water that runs off our roofs and into our streets and alleys, carrying all the oil, sediment and other contaminants that it picks up along the way into our lakes, rivers and streams.

*Rain barrels MUST be picked up in person during your scheduled pick-up time on August 24th between 12:00-2:30 PM, there is no delivery or alternative pick-up window. Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty!

For questions, please contact Ryan Brancato at rbrancato.ericd@gmail.com or (401)903-2370.

Bristol Rain Barrel Event

Learn how to prep a rain barrel, with all the materials and step by step guidance provided within the workshop. At the end of the workshop you will be taking home a ready-to-install rain barrel and installation kit, which will collect and store stormwater for your garden.

The cost of this workshop is $55 which includes attending the workshop, the rain barrel materials and installation kit which you will take home to install yourself after the workshop.

Please pay attention to the arrival time of your ticket as each workshop is split into three arrival windows so that our volunteers have the capacity to set you up with your materials. Containers generously provided by Coca-Cola. Made possible with support from the River Network.

For conservation and pollution prevention, installing a rain barrel to collect and store rainwater for use on your lawn and gardens is a simple but powerful way to make a difference for Narragansett Bay.

The Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District (ERICD) is a non-profit, quasi-public organization that functions as a facilitator for meeting the needs of the local land user in the conservation of soil, water and other related natural resources.

The make-up Rain-Date for this workshop is Sunday, April 7. You will be notified via the email that you sign up with whether the workshop is postponed due to the weather!

Please contact Natalie at nducharmebarth.ericd@gmail.com with any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you there!

Financial and Technical Assistance- Information Session

Calling all farmers and landowners!

Do you own or manage farmland or forest land in Rhode Island? Could you use some technical and financial help in managing those lands more effectively? Join us for an information session to discover how you can work together with the Eastern RI Conservation District (ERICD) to install environmentally-smart practices on your land.

Through our partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), we can provide you with financial and technical assistance to address natural resource concerns through an array of conservation practices.

This is an in-person event and there is no virtual option for this meeting. However, if you are not able to attend in person, please reach out to us to schedule a one-to-one meeting or phone call where we can answer your questions and provide you with further information. For questions contact Natalie at nducharmebarth.ericd@gmail.com.

We offer funding and support through a range of conservation programs, including:

• EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program) - NRCS’ flagship conservation program that helps farmers, ranchers and forest landowners integrate conservation into working lands.

• EQIP IRA (Environmental Quality Incentives Program) – Helps farmers, ranchers, forestland owners, and Tribes with the application of conservation measures that focus on carbon sequestration, greenhouse gas emissions, reduced energy, and soil health.

• CSP (Conservation Stewardship Program) – Helps landowners build on existing conservation efforts while strengthening operations.

• AMA (Agricultural Management Assistance) – Helps agricultural producers manage financial risk through diversification, marketing, or natural resource conservation practices.

• ACEP (Agricultural Conservation Easement Program) – Helps landowners, land trusts, and other entities protect, restore, and enhance wetlands or protect working farms and ranches through conservation easements.

The next round of funding for these programs has an application deadline of March 15. Join us for more information on the different programs, your eligibility, and in-person application help.
