Seven Big Wins For The Environment This Year, Thank You To Our Community

Sara Churgin, ERICD District Manager, said, “ERICD had an amazing year and we could not have done it without our community. Everyone including volunteers, local funders, our dedicated staff, elected officials, participating residents, non-profit partners, farmers, and so many others made a positive impact for conservation this year. The work continues and we are looking forward to the new year. This January, please keep an eye out for a listening session as well as a special community garden grant opportunity.  We are excited to share these seven big wins for 2021 and want to say a big thank you to everyone who made a difference this year. Happy Holidays!”

Seven big wins for 2021:

Summer at Portsmouth AgInnovation Farm - The farm truly came to life the Spring and Summer. With HUGE community support, we built a seasonal high tunnel, storage shed, farmed community plots, grew tons of produce that was donated to local food banks! Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Learn more about the farm: https://www.easternriconservation.org/aginnovation-farm

Earth Month - Rain barrels, plogging, pliking, oh my! This April was PACKED with events that will all have a positive impact on our environment for years to come. Stay tuned for Earth Month 2022, already in the works! https://www.easternriconservation.org/earthmonth

Newport Navy Chorister Concert - Thanks to the generosity of The Newport Navy Choristers, we raised thousands of dollars to support agricultural education. The Choristers selected the Portsmouth AgInnovation Farm as the beneficiary of their annual holiday concert. Thank you for your support!

Return of In-Person Farm Tours - After going virtual in 2020, we were excited to gather safely outdoors for our farm tours in 2021! These tours feature local farms and their conservation practices. Visit our website to experience some of the tours: https://www.easternriconservation.org/nrcs

Tiverton Farmers Markets - Our dedicated volunteers distributed materials at the Tiverton Farmers Market throughout the year and will continue to do so in 2022. The market will be switching to Sundays beginning in January. Support your local farmers at the market:  https://www.tivertonfarmersmarket.com/

Newport Stormwater Mitigation - We have been working with the Newport Health Equity Zone (HEZ) and The City of Newport to engage residents to discover nature-based solutions to flooding caused by stormwater runoff due to poor drainage in the area. The results of our resident are available on our website: https://www.easternriconservation.org/stormwater

Launch of new website - Early this year we launched our brand-new website. If you have not checked it out, visit it to discover more about our programs, announcements, upcoming events, and grant opportunities!  https://www.easternriconservation.org/
